AT&T $39 billion for T-Mobile blocked

Wednesday, in a surprise move, the U.S. Justice Department effectively said, "Yes," filing suit in federal court in Washington to stop the merger. Now the question is whether there's any political wheeling and dealing AT&T can do with the Obama administration -- promises of more union jobs or subsidized cellphone service for low-income Americans or promises of more rollouts of high-speed wireless coverage in rural areas -- to get them to drop the lawsuit and allow the merger, on some new terms, to proceed.
